I awakened with these lyrics playing in my mind:

“It is finished, He has done it, life conquered death, Jesus Christ, has done it!”

It’s no doubt that people have been praying for Leslie, Gabriel and I as today marks the 8th year since Marissa went home to be with Jesus, and in the processed conquered death.

I mentioned to a friend earlier today that I know that people are praying for me because when I experience being in my “right mind” during the midst of a hurricane, I know that a power greater than me is at work in me. I felt that during the first few days after May 27, 2008, and I feel it today, having gone through a week of feeling the unenviable winds of grief this week as well.

So I marvel that on this day that I awaken with not only a song in my heart, but this particular song with these lyrics coursing through my mind, for which I’m grateful.

I know we’ll see Marissa again, and I’ll always appreciate your prayers of comfort and support which keep me not only in my right mind, but inspired to live, work and love one more day.

Thank you,

Ken M

A message of Love from Marissa’s Journal

Lyrics from The Victor by Keith Green

Swallowed into earth’s dark womb

And death has triumphed

That’s what they say

But tried to hold him in the tomb

The son of life

Rose on the third day

Just look

The gates of hell

They’re falling

Crumbling from the inside out

He’s bursting through

The walls with laughter (hah!)

Listen to the angels shout

It is finished

He has done it

Life conquered death

Jesus christ

Has won it

His plan of battle

You know it

He fooled them all

They led him off to prison to die

But as he entered hades hall

He broke those hellish chains with a cry

Just listen to those demons screaming

See him bruise the serpent’s head

The prisoners of hell

He’s redeeming (oh!)

All the power of death is dead

It is finished

He has done it

Life conquered death

Jesus christ

Has won it

Just look

The gates of hell they’re falling

Crumbling from the inside out

He’s bursting through the walls with laughter (hah!)

Listen to the angels shout

(listen, oh, listen)

It is finished

He has done it

Life conquered death

Jesus christ

Has won it

It is finished

He has done it

Life conquered death

Jesus christ

Has won it
